This book, The Royal Manor of Penkhull’ is the largest ever published book ever written on a part of North Staffordshire if not the region. It is the first major copntribution to the understanding of the growth and occupation of an area from the Neolithic period to almost the present day. It reflects upon pre-historic times, the Roman occupation a valued interpretaion of Domesday when Penkhull was one of the wealthiest farming communities in the area.
In great debeth it studies and uses the Manor Court Rolls from the mid 13th century until that of the 20th. All this in addition to the social implications of the industrial revolution from the 17th century to that of the Parish Workhouse and the institutional care of children in Penkhull Cottages Homes.
The whole contents of the book are researched for the first time and present a new insight to this part of Staffordshire never previously written about.

Hi, I am trying to trace my family tree. I was born in Penkhull but moved away at the age of three, i believe I have family connections to Penkhull going back many years. The Simpson family, the Broomfields, coopers, whitfields and wrenchs. I wonder it this book would help me with my research!
I went to school in Penkhull dates 1946 to 1961,along with Barry Simpson, Gordon Broomfield and Hillary Wrench.The Wrenches lived in Lodge Road and the Broomfields in Hunters Way.The Simpsons if I remember right lived off London Road Stoke.The others I have no knowledge of.I hope this may help you.
P.S Just remembered I was also at school with a Michael Cooper who lived in the Springfields,Trent Vale area.
